sometimes is so-so

French Japanese pop culture inspired bag line Toki Doki (sometimes in Japanese) sample sale opened up yesterday. Discounts modest, with wallets at 55$ and clutches starting at 60$. Larger bags ranged from 100-170. The workmanship is ok, not cloture, and doesn’t warrant the 278$ price point the bags normal retail at. The designs are very cute, with nice details like rainbow zippers and matching key chains.

These are fun trendy pieces that I might pick up if they we're a steal, but I'll save my splurge for something timeless. The T-shirts and hats are worth checking out. T-shirts are 20$ and hats are 15-25$.

Retail Crazy

After a feeble Christmas season, most retailers are continuing to slash prices in to the New Year. Just walking to work I’ve notice Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and Sax all have sale signs up. Almost every store is having 50-60% off sales right now, so just hit up any of your favorite brands or department stores and you should find deals.

I've noticed that alot of retailers are trying to clear stock by bundling. Rember it's not a deal if it's something you don't need. The real savings are on indvidual marked down items, not sets that load you up with 'free' or discounted junk.

It is worth noting Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale starts today. You should be able to find bargains at any of their many locations.

Thomas Pink 40% off, most of the shirts are now 89$, but if you dig around you can get some lucky finds at 29-39. Because the lines fitted button downs are timeless, it dosen’t matter if they are a few seasons out of date. Sale at all NY Thomas Pink locations.

A tale of two bag sales

So the Hype/London Fog/Rampage/Bill Bass and the Badgley/Mischka/Cynthia Rowley sample sales are in the same building.

There are also plenty of other bag sales going on this week, but the Hype/Fog has lots of stock a deep discounts make it the sale to go to.

When I went all Hype bags we’re 60$, London fog was 50$ and Rampage was 20$ unless marked lower. The pricing structure isn’t always that generous; they slash prices if sales slow. But lighting can strike twice, so if you’re looking for steals check this sale on the last day, that’s when they are most likely to be unloading stock.

At any other time expect Rampage purses to go for 30-40$, Hype bags 60% off, London fog at 50%-70%, and Bill Bass half price.

There are lots of rummage bins with 5$ steals, and clutches are very reasonable ranging from 5-40$. Samples are very cheap, London fog 2 for 40$, other brands 10-25$ each.

The Badgley/Mischka/Cynthia Rowley sample sale is open latter, so you can stop by the 6th floor on the way out. The product is nice, but the pricing is much less competive with bags 50% off. Clutches start at 45-75$ depending on brand, purses start at 150$-200$ and range up from there.

all that glitters

The highlight of the Noir sale is defiantly the trays of cocktail rings, ranging from ostentatious to ridiculous; these chunky ultra fake conversations starters don’t take them selves to seriously. They vary in size from large to unwearable, the smallest of which are slightly cumbersome the largest might be mistaken for a rhine stoned satellite array. If the full on crystal emblazoned parrot statue ring isn’t for you, there’s blinged up Kentith J Lane enamel in every color, a lot of retro 70’s stuff and even a couple of cheap Victorian pendants. Prices on rings go from 15$ -45$ with the most wearable items settling at 25$.

In a similarly weighty but completely different astetic Giles & Brother and Philip Crangi are having a sample sale, check out their railroad spike bangles and fishing hook necklaces. Cash only.

There's still time

The kid robot sample sale was pretty disappointing. It was more clothes then toys and more t-shirts then anything. 25$ KR t-shirts are a sort of good buy if you need a very ‘senster now’ graphic t. Their hoodies are down to 80$, from 150$. They are very cute and hip but the quality and detailing are lower then an Ecco cut sew hoodie at the same price point.

If you are a full figured lady make sure you get to the Pfiff lingerie sale either today or tomorrow. As previously mentioned Bras are 15$, Panties are 9$ and camisoles are 18$. They’ve been cleaned out of the common sizes, but they have tons of selection in the DD-F cups, a hard size to shop for. They carry in sizes 32-38 so you’ve got plenty of options.

busy week

Vivienne Tam had a good selection of items in sizes 0-10, I fit her 10 if the cut is generous or the fabric is stretchy otherwise they are a little small in the chest. There are plenty of full skirts so hips shouldn’t be an issue.

Previous seasons stock and samples are 80-95$ for dresses an excellent value if you chose a classic style. If your on a budget embellished t-shirts are 20$ and knits are 40$. This season is 120-180 depending on the dress.

They do provide mirrors but no dressing area, this is not a sale for the shy.
