Sign of the times

Bill Blass announced they would be closing, after their parent company NexCen unsuccessful attempt to sell the label.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the 550 7th Ave showroom; they may be selling off their remaining stock at considerable discounts.

A diffrent look book

Internationally recognized fashion photographer Robert Maxwell has an interesting collection on the Times web site this week called The Originals. It features a selection of Japanese art and design heavy weights like Takashi Murakami. Each photo is paired with a short bio and voice interview.

Check it out at: The Orginals

tight market

I checked out the purse sale that was mentioned on Good Day New York. It was made up of a number of different dealers each with there own both; some were selling samples some vintage many were doing both.

Channel clutches stared at 400$, and purses started at 1,200$ Fendi bags started around 500$, and most items we’re approximately 50% -60% off. While these aren’t bad prices the retail market is quite aggressive and these prices aren’t competitive with in store prices. There isn’t a compelling reason to go to sample sale to get a Fendi purse for 500$, when you can order it for the same price from Barney’s 60 % off sale barneys.com

There are 100$ and 200$ ‘bargain’ bins for vintage items with more wear on them. This sale may be worth checking out if you are looking to buy a channel purse and you are disappointed by the limited selection of most department stores. However if your not already looking but these small discounts don’t give you a reason to buy.
